BUFORD LODGE

Buford Lodge has long been a destination for hunters and fishers seeking some of the world's best elk hunting and world class open river fishing in the country, as well as those just looking to get away and relax along the White River.  Owned and operated by the Tucker family since 1958, Buford Lodge is a family-friendly vacation destination on Colorado's Western Slope.

Buford has been owned and operated by the Tucker family since 1958, but Buford's history goes all the way back to 1887.  It was instrumental to the development of the White River Valley, serving residents from Meeker to Trapper's Lake.

The White River Valley became home to many ranchers starting in 1881, with an Army outpost at what would become Meeker around the same time.  Many of the logs used for the Army outpost were then taken by the residents along the White River for their properties -- you can see "U.S." stamped on the ends of the beams at one of the buildings at Buford still today.  Buford later held the post office, as it was roughly halfway between Meeker and Trapper's Lake.  The post office closed in 1919, and reopened in the 1950s while the Buford store continued to operate, adding a gas station as more cars and trucks would travel County Road 8.

While the store and post office are closed today, the cabins, many of which date back to the early 1900s, still host hunters, anglers, and vacationers each year.   Many of the cabins still hold their historic character and charm, with modern updates to make you feel right at home along the White River.

We have loved staying at Buford Lodge this summer. The views are amazing, it's peaceful, and relaxing.

The RV park is nice with full hookups, and the sites are large enough to accommodate our big rig. Easy access to over one mile of the beautiful White River makes the stay extra enjoyable. The owners are friendly, and go the extra mile to ensure that your stay is a great one!

Buford Lodge is the perfect place to step off this merry-go-round, called life, and relax and unwind.

The best weekend of fishing of my life!

There are many reasons to love Buford: hiking, fishing, boating, ATVing, Jeeping, picking berries, watching birds, taking walks, relaxing by the river with a good book, listening to the river at night – there is something for everyone around Buford!  The Tucker family are wonderful hosts and maintain the property beautifully.  Of all the places we have visited, Buford is our favorite!

I stayed at Buford Lodge over the summer and enjoyed every moment of my stay.  From waking up early and enjoying breakfast on the porch, to exploring all the things to do in the area.  We went swimming at Lake Avery, rode ATVs around the many trails, and hiked up at Trapper's Lake.  The nights were spent relaxing, reading by the river, or sitting by the campfire.  It was the perfect place to get away from everything for a while and unwind. Everywhere you look, you see something new, and something beautiful.  I can’t wait to head back up the mountains to Buford Lodge for my next stay.

Buford has become our family's annual getaway.  The serenity and Narnia feel ensures you will have a restful getaway. We really enjoy having the wildness of the surrounding forests and the luxuries of the "city" staying in the Orchard cabin. Our family enjoys the many different activities available from 4-wheeling, horseback riding, walks along the river, foraging and nightly campfires. WE LOVE BUFORD LODGE!

What an amazing hidden gem... can you imagine our surprise, driving along the highway sightseeing and getting this glimpse through the cottonwood trees of beautiful green grass along the White River.  We naturally turn around, drive in and WOW! We have named it "Our RV Oasis in Buford" and can't wait to go back.

"Our home away from home. So many memories made. Thanks for a great week."

Buford was the perfect country getaway for our family. Coming from hectic and congested San Diego, Buford was a much needed breath of fresh air! I loved the cabins with their rustic decor. It was amazing to look out the kitchen window and see the rushing river right outside! The area is absolutely gorgeous - the mountain ranges, aspen forests, lush grassy meadows, and wildflowers. Exploring the White River Forest in the UTV’s was definitely one of the highlights. The kids loved the UTV rides, as well as swimming in the nearby lake. Our toddler made quick friends with one of the Buford dogs via their mutual love of the ball (Hi “Buddy”!). Nobody was ready to leave. We will definitely be back!
